Reconstruction & Rehabilitation of Education Institutions Affected by the Beirut Port Explosion

Context:

As Lebanon began to rebuild its education system following the devastating impacts of the port explosion, this collaborative initiative is poised to spearhead the rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts. The primary goal was to ensure uninterrupted learning opportunities and uphold the right to education for vulnerable children and youth affected by the disaster.

Solution:

The joint effort targets the rehabilitation or reconstruction of:

• 55 public schools
• 20 Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions
• Three universities are the American University of Beirut, Saint Joseph University, and Lebanese University.

Impact:

This comprehensive endeavor can potentially revitalize educational infrastructure across Lebanon, enabling affected schools, vocational institutions, and universities to resume operations. By swiftly addressing the physical damage caused by the explosion, the initiative aims to safeguard students' learning continuity and ensure their access to quality education. However, there is limited information regarding the targets that were achieved.
